An All Round Alternative to Toxic Dryer Sheets
Having learned that dryer sheets have a tendency to release harmful VOCs when used in your tumble dryer, we’d been doing our laundry without any fabric softening at all for several years now. We were very interested to try these wool dryer balls as an alternative as they are simply made from tightly woven wool without any additives. These work mechanically, agitating your clothes as they tumble and help with airflow while drying. We’ve especially noticed how much fluffier our towels are since using these. We like that they are unscented but you can add essential oils if desired for some extra aroma. These XL balls are about 3″ in diameter and have lasted for many loads so far. They are a little less effective with heavier loads so this is an important consideration when evaluating their performance. They do break down over time but they’re still going strong for us after a month of regular use. The only downside is the price per ball as compared with others that are available out there. At $12.99, we are very happy to have stumbled across these but as value goes, they get four stars.

I’ve been using these types of wool dryer balls for years. I’ll be honest, I’m still not completely convinced they make a huge difference, but my wife swears by them, so I continue to buy them when the old ones wear out. I bought this 3-pack to replace our latest set, and while the quality of the balls is perfectly fine, the value for the money is not.What I Liked:Good, Standard Quality: The dryer balls themselves are well constructed. They are dense, made of 100% wool as you’d expect, and are of the exact same quality as any other brand I’ve used in the past. They will do the job.What I Didn’t Like:Poor Value / Overpriced: My main and only issue with this product is the price. You only get three dryer balls in this pack. I have previously purchased other brands here on Amazon that offer a pack of six XL dryer balls, of the exact same quality, for only about $7 more than this 3-pack costs. This means you’re getting half the product for a disproportionately high price.Nothing Special to Justify the Cost: There is absolutely nothing unique or special about these three specific dryer balls that justifies the high price-per-ball compared to the many other options available.Who Should Buy:Honestly, it’s hard to recommend this specific product based on the price. Gets the job done
A bit on the pricier side, but it does what it says it does. It helps keep my towels less tangled up and helps them dry faster in my dryer. I usually have to restart my dryer to run it a bit longer, but with the dryer balls it cuts the time down. I also like applying essential oils to the dryer balls and allowing the scent to penetrate my clothes without it getting onto them. They seem like they’ll last a while, but careful of any animals. My dog found one that fell out of my towel pile and he wanted it so bad.
