Hamilton Beach Scoop single serve coffee maker
I purchased this coffee maker after owning the stainless steel version. This was less expensive but works pretty much the same. I like the fact that you put the amount of water in for the size cup you want instead of relying on the machine to get it right. I say this because of previous experience with much more expensive machines that never worked properly. The more expensive machines didn’t hold up well either. You can use any coffee you want without spending a lot on K-cups. The coffee is always hot and brewed perfectly. It has a coffee strainer basket and a secondary mesh filter and both must be rinsed between each cup to prevent a backup that might cause it to run over, a simple easy process. It shuts off automatically after each use. It will also shut off if you forget to put water in it. It has cup trays on two levels, one to accommodate a tall cup then one that folds out at a higher level for a small cup to prevent splashing. This is a well designed inexpensive single serve coffee maker. It’s attractive enough and fits anywhere. You get a great cup of coffee every time. Note; I don’t just scoop with the strainer, I measure with a tablespoon for consistent strength and flavor. You don’t want to dip the wet scoop in your ground coffee after you rinse it anyway.

    Best single use coffee pot!
This really has been the perfect coffee pot for me. I drink only a cup a day and this has its own filter in it so I can use whatever coffee brand I want. It brews quickly for me as well. My only withdraw is the button has to be tapped firmly or it won’t turn on but other than that, it’s perfect!

Basically the worst coffee maker that looks nearly identical to the best coffee maker (read review)
This has to be the worst case of bait and switch ever. I love the idea of “The Scoop”. The convenience of a Keurig, but with no post consumer waste and way better coffee. The first generation “The Scoop” which was all chrome looking from what I understand was great, but lacked a removable water tank and you had to refill it with every cup. The second generation was FANTASTIC. Removable tank. Selectable brew size. “Bold” mode. This third generation looks close enough to the second generation that you’d be tempted to think it was the same item. FALSE. I bought one for my mom since I loved my own 2nd gen so much. The 3rd gen is about on par with one of those crappy en-suite coffee makers you find in a cheap hotel. The 3rd gen brews a large by default. If you want a smaller cup, I KID YOU NOT the recommendations per the instructions is to unplug the coffee maker?!?!?! Cheap cheap cheap. Such a bummer they discontinued the 2nd generation. This new one sucks and should be avoided.

    Works good.
Easy to use. But it does splatter a little when it drips. But the coffee is good and the temperature is perfect!

It does what I bought it to do
I figured with the negative reviews there’d be lots of refurbs. Sure enough there are. I don’t see the problems talked about in these reviews. This replaces a similar Proctor-Silex machine. Unlike some similar machines the Hamilton Beach does not have a means to use Keurig style pods, it’s loose ground coffee only. I don’t see any evidence of water leakage or coffee grounds spillage while in use so I don’t know what those reviews are talking about. The coffee when freshly made might be a little hotter than the Proctor Silex unit and as hot as I’d want in an insulated mug. Otherwise it would be too hot to drink. I’d buy it again.Edit: After having this coffee maker for a couple months I thought I’d add to my review. It seemed like the machine was turning on without my intentionally pushing the button. It took me a little while to figure out why and it wasn’t the machine’s fault. When I’d remove the grounds basket I’d unintentionally rest my thumb on the ‘on’ button. The brewer would turn on but I guess because there wasn’t any water in it would turn off almost immediately. However the brewer is designed that once it’s powered up and turns off, it won’t turn on again for 2 minutes. Unplugging and plugging back in didn’t help. So I had to wait for 2 minutes to start a brew cycle. Resting my thumb someplace besides the ‘on’ switch when removing the grounds basket fixed the problem. It will sometimes splatter a little grounds on the back of the machine during the brew cycle. Easy to wipe off.I did have it overflow once when making coffee. The cause was the secondary filter’s screen getting clogged. When emptying the used grounds I now check the secondary filter and rinse if necessary. Problem fixed. It will sometimes drip if I don’t leave the cup in place long enough after it turns off. I imagine any single cup brewer is going to have a similar problem. My solution is to keep an empty cat food can nearby. Remove the cup and put the cat food can in its place.

    Perfect For Individual Coffee Making
My wife and I have very different tastes when it comes to coffee and this handy little machine is perfect for our needs. It’s got a slim profile and takes up minimal space on our kitchen countertop while having the capacity to brew a ‘large’ 16-oz single serving. It’s simple to operate and shuts itself off after it’s done with a simple “Brew” button to activate it. The double metal mesh filtration does an excellent job of keeping the grounds in place and makes cleanup a breeze. They only require a quick rinse under the faucet and a wipe-down of the brewing chamber with a paper towel to keep things running smoothly. The scoop capacity allows us to customize the amount of grounds used in each ‘cup’ brewed, which is important as she’s a ‘strong and black’ drinker while I prefer mine to be less powerful and mix-and-match creamers for different flavors depending on my mood. It works quickly, taking only a couple of minutes to brew and dispense the cup, and the temperature is hot but not scalding. The two-minute cool-down in between brewing cups means we can enjoy our own preferred drinks together on the weekends while still making that quick cup on demand in the mornings before the workday without having to fight over who goes first.

Bought this to replace a much fancier all in one name brand that bit the dust by extravagantly breaking apart while spinning its pod.Let’s be honest – this is not the fanciest coffee maker on the market. It takes a couple of minutes to brew, sure – but honestly, for the price and the freedom of having a simple mesh basket to use your own grinds, the value for money is absolutely there. Note that it doesn’t force water through like a pod system, but is more like a miniaturized coffee maker – not quite as slow as a drip, but it’s the same type of brewing, just into a smaller basket.Initially I felt disappointed by the simplicity of this coffee maker, but once I got over myself and realized all I was really missing was marketing and sunk costs from the usual fancy pod systems, I’ve grown to love this little thing. It makes a good cup of coffee. I find I get the best results with somewhere finer than a medium grind – I’d say a fine(ish) grind level.Really the only (small) sticking point I have is that it has no water reservoir, so you have to fill every time you use it. I can’t fault it for that either though, as this means it takes up much less counter space. If you can’t justify making a pot a day, this should be all you need. Not to mention that you really get bang for your buck with using your own coffee without having to mess with 3rd party pod adapters or anything like that. I had a 950g tin of coffee last 2.5months using this once daily. This would honestly make a great gift for a student coffee drinker living in a dorm.

This simple machine makes a hot cup of coffee in no time. I consider myself a bit of a coffee snob but I feel that with a quality coffee, fresh fine grind, the temperature of the water is ideal. I did purchase the paper filters.

Went by instructions and used water and coffee amounts . It is messy to use and you cannot add more coffee grounds or it spits them out the front of the grounds scoop. I have forced myself to use it for over a month , and now am getting something different

For those who demand a great cup of coffee, hot fast and bold, there’s nothing finer than ‘The Scoop’
